White House Sidesteps Questions on Potential Trump Military Action Against Venezuela

The White House on Thursday declined to confirm whether President Donald Trump is contemplating direct military action against Venezuelan facilities, amid the significant U.S. naval and air presence in the Caribbean Sea. During a press briefing, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt faced questions about the scope of the military operation. She responded, “I won’t preempt the president on matters of military action or related questions. However, I can say that many Caribbean and regional nations have praised the administration’s counterdrug efforts, and the president is ready to deploy all available U.S. resources to halt drug trafficking into our country and hold those responsible accountable.”

Leavitt also reaffirmed that the U.S. does not recognize Nicolás Maduro as Venezuela’s legitimate president, accusing him of rigging the July 28, 2024, presidential election.
