Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Monday acknowledged an increase in the flow of migrants within Mexico over the past month, at the same time that he said the his administration is investigating the abandonment of migrants traveling on passenger buses, a situation that has increased in recent days.
According to data presented by the president and obtained from US Customs and Border Protection, irregular migration increased by 26 percent between June and July.
The figures presented by AMLO also revealed a 45 percent increase in the migration of undocumented and unaccompanied minors between June and July.
Mexico registered an annual increase of more than 43 percent in the number of “persons in an irregular situation” in the country over the past year, during which authorities detected 444,439 migrants.
